Consistency beats a hero week, every time

Hey, it's Gautam.

Huge week on the building side — more came out of it than any week since launch. Let's start with the training idea behind a lot of it.

This week I was extremely busy catching up with the new iOS updates. Updating apps will become more tricky now with iPhone Duo in the mix. Apps will need new layouts, screenshots, features and what not. I am equally excited and equally stressed out thinking about it 😆.

Why three "good enough" sessions beat one heroic week

You know the pattern: you go all-out for a week, then life happens and you miss the next two. On paper that week looked great. In practice, it did less for you than three boring, consistent weeks would have.

The WHO's 2020 physical activity guidelines are built around this exact idea — the health and strength benefits come from regular activity sustained over time, not from occasional hard efforts (WHO Guidelines, 2020). A string of "good enough" sessions you actually show up for outperforms a few perfect ones you can't keep repeating.

This is also just kinder to your life. You don't need a flawless week. You need most weeks to be decent, strung together for months.

Recco's take: "I don't do hero days. I do Tuesday."

Ranks, with somewhere to actually go. Your progress now climbs through five ranks — Den, Trailhead, Valley, Ridge, Summit — each with its own crest, and a trail screen that shows exactly where you are and what's next.

Badges for the moments that used to pass quietly. Your first workout, your first PR, a full week trained, coming back after time off — there are 8 of them now, sitting on Grow so you can see what you've earned and what's next.

The logger got easier to actually use mid-set. Exercises now collapse into cards so you're not scrolling past ones you've finished, and each one shows its trend line and the weight suggested for today right up top.

A nudge so you don't forget. After you set up your plan, you can turn on one daily reminder at the time you actually train.

Try this week

Go for one of the new badges — "a full week trained" is the easiest one to chase, and it rewards exactly the thing this week's lesson is about.

Hit reply and tell me: what's the longest streak of "good enough" weeks you've ever managed?
